Music lifts the Soul

I recently had the opportunity with a member of the High Council to extend a call to a new Stake Music Chairperson. As always when approaching such assignments I read the handbook, to ensure that when we explain the assignment, we explained it correctly.

However not all inspiration when preparing comes from the handbook. In the week preceding the interview this scene from an old episode of Glee caught my attention. It depicts a deaf choir that moves the “New Directions” to understand music participation just a little better.

Doctrine and Covenants 25:12
For my soul delighteth in the song of the heart; yea, the song of the righteous is a prayer unto me, and it shall be answered with a blessing upon their heads.

As I look around our sacrament meetings I see some, that choose not to sing congregational hymns. As an individual that cant read music and has no ambitions to be in a choir, let me encourage one and all to sing out !!

I believe its what’s in your heart, not your vocal chords that counts. Our sacrament meetings are worship services. Lets raise our voices and shed our inhibitions to worship through song. I promise your soul will be lifted.
