One by One

3 Nephi 11:15

And it came to pass that the multitude went forth, and thrust their hands into his side, and did feel the prints of the nails in his hands and in his feet; and this they did do, going forth one by one until they had all gone forth, and did see with their eyes and did feel with their hands, and did know of a surety and did bear record, that it was he, of whom it was written by the prophets, that should come.

In January (2019) we gave each Bishop two jars and a marble to represent every member on their ward list. Then we asked them to put a marble for each active member in one jar and the rest in the other.

We had several reasons for doing this. As well as being a very visual representation of those who are not currently engaged in church, it provides a point of focus for each meeting in the office.

But having jars on a Bishops desk does little more than serve as a reminder of the challenges faced. So the next instruction was to give each ward leader one of the “less active” marbles, to focus them on working with individuals one by one.

The instruction was to pray daily, “Which individual can I inspire or help today?”

The marble serves as a token or reminder, to act on promptings and can be kept in your pocket, purse on on top of the TV.

As someone who spends a lot of time travelling, my marble lives in the car.

With each corner or speed change, I have a constant reminder to keep a prayer in my heart and an ear for the spirit.

Over the months I have had several wonderful experiences, as I have been reminded by the marble, to act on a prompting “now not tomorrow” Actions such as pop in visits, phone calls or texts.

We hope that our ward leaders will have similar experiences and want to share a marble with those they lead, with the instruction to “go and do likewise”

Of course some of our wards have more “marbles to work with” but that just gives more opportunities !

As we work one by one we will begin to hasten the work of salvation in our corner of the vineyard. If every member cares for and nutures one other, as prompted by the spirit, miracles will happen in lives of hundreds.
