Have you ever found living the gospel to be hard, you thought perhaps that the path to eternal life was meant to be straight and narrow? Maybe straight and narrow evokes images of an airport travelator, that will carry you to your destination without effort.
Unfortunately both times in the paragraph above, I purposely spelt “straight” in the non scriptural way.
And I also beheld a strait and narrow path, which came along by the rod of iron, even to the tree by which I stood; and it also led by the head of the fountain, unto a large and spacious field, as if it had been a world. 1 Nephi 8:20
For the gate by which ye should enter is repentance and baptism by water; and then cometh a remission of your sins by fire and by the Holy Ghost…And then are ye in this strait and narrow path which leads to eternal life…. 2 Nephi 31:17-18
So does a spelling really make any difference ? I looked up Strait and found…
That seems a lot different than I imagined Straight to be !!!
Is the path to eternal life really Strict, Rigourous, Causing distress or Difficulty? It probably is.
Discipleship is not meant to be easy, it is meant to be a life of experiences that knock off our rough edges and polishes our character. Not that we earn our way into Heaven, just that we need to be more Heavenly when we get there.
Rethinking the path now as being strait, I can see it will have twists and turns and it will be uphill sometimes, but that’s ok, it will make me fit…. for Heaven.
