Inspired by Elder Bednar and his call to “Flood the Earth through Social Media” I have tried to do my part over the past few years. Ranging from blogging every week of my sons mission in Greece, to last years more light hearted “mini-mission” Instagram account. As I visit lost of LDS chapels in the course of a week, the latter was an attempt to raise the profile of our buildings and make people smile. On occasions I even got full size, full time missionaries to help!
“The Lord is hastening His work, and it is no coincidence that these powerful communication innovations and inventions are occurring in the dispensation of the fullness of times. Social media channels are global tools that can personally and positively impact large numbers of individuals and families. And I believe the time has come for us as disciples of Christ to use these inspired tools appropriately and more effectively to testify of God the Eternal Father, His plan of happiness for His children, and His Son, Jesus Christ, as the Savior of the world; to proclaim the reality of the Restoration of the gospel in the latter days; and to accomplish the Lord’s work.” Elder Bednar
“mini-mission” has been on hold for a few months, but I have decided to bring it back to life as part of “hastening-the-work.com” You will now see it is listed as one of the menu options of this website. If you are an Instagram user you can now follow us there as well as here.
The concept of mini-mission is “Small missionaries, big message” each picture being accompanied by a scripture or uplifting quote.
“Imagine the impact we can have as hundreds of thousands and millions of members of the Lord’s restored Church contribute in seemingly small ways to the rising floodwaters. May our many small, individual efforts produce a steady rainfall of righteousness and truth that gradually swells a multitude of streams and rivers—and ultimately becomes a flood that sweeps the earth. “Wherefore, be not weary in well-doing, for ye are laying the foundation of a great work. And out of small things proceedeth that which is great” (D&C 64:33).
We have been and are blessed in so many ways; and where much is given, much is required. I pray that you may come to understand more fully the spiritual significance and blessing of living in the dispensation of the fulness of times, that you may have eyes to see clearly both the possibilities and the pitfalls of the remarkable technologies that are available to us today, that you may increase in your capacity to use these inspired tools appropriately, and that you may receive inspiration and guidance about the role you should play in helping to sweep the earth as with a flood of truth and righteousness. As you press forward in this holy work, I promise you will be blessed in mortality in the individual, specific, and necessary ways that will prepare you for eternity.” Elder Bednar
You don’t have to blog, meme or create content to be a part of this great work, simply SHARING some of the content from this or other LDS authors is doing your part in flooding the internet with good and uplifting content.
