We have decided as a Stake Presidency, that whilst church meetings are suspended, we will share a spiritual thought to our members each Saturday Evening. I thought it would be good to put them here too, for future reference and for others outside of the stake to ponder if they wish. Week 2 of suspended church meetings is by President Hughes, Counselor Stake Presidency.
Dear Brothers & Sisters
President Harrott has asked me to share a brief message with you all this weekend.
We want you to know that you are in our thoughts and prayers.
What a blessing it is to be led by a living prophet who knows the will of the Lord.
It would be easy for us to feel distanced from the Lord right now with the imposed restrictions regarding Church meetings and social contact but tonight I wish to share some thoughts on why that need not be so.
In Kirtland, Ohio, the Prophet Joseph Smith received a revelation. The Lord told him, “Draw near unto me and I will draw near unto you; seek me diligently and ye shall find me” (D&C 88:63).
In a world right now where we are being asked to distance ourselves from each other what an opportunity we have with less distractions to draw closer to the Lord.
You may ask “Why would I want to draw closer to the Lord ?”
Let me offer some reasons why I want to be closer to the Lord in a hope that it may be of some help to you.
I have come to know the Saviour as have you when I have been in dark and difficult places. He is the ONLY one who truely understands how we feel and is the only who can HEAL us.
He has promised that if we seek Him we will find Him !
“Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.”
Have you ever needed the comfort and reassurance that only the Saviour can give ?
I trust Brothers and Sisters that we do not let the cares of the world overcome us and that we forget the absolute need we all have to draw near unto the Saviour.
He will not force any of us to come unto Him but he will never stop inviting us to do so.
When I am right with the Lord I feel :-
Reassured that all will be well
Peace of mind
I’m sure you’ll agree there is not one of the above that we wouldn’t want in our lives.
I promise you that as we make the effort to draw near unto the Lord it will be worth every sacrifice we make to do so.
The Lord knows us individually. He is the prince of Peace.
I love the words from Joseph Smith during his time in Liberty Jail when speaking to the Saints.let us cheerfully do all things that lie in our power; and then may we stand still, with the utmost assurance, to see the salvation of God, and for his arm to be revealed” (D&C 123:17 )
I know as we put our trust in Him we will be blessed and see the Lords hand in the detail of our lives.
May the lord bless each of us as we strive to draw nearer to Him and be more like Him.
In the name of Jesus Christ Amen.
