This week we have asked our Stake Relief Society President to provide our Stake message…
I’ve been invited to share some thoughts with you this week
In this weeks Come, Follow Me reading in Mosiah 8:18 Ammon shared his testimony of the blessings and importance of seers; “Thus God has provided a means that man, through faith, might work mighty miracles; therefore he becometh a great benefit to his fellow beings.” The study material asks the question; When was the last time you pondered the blessings of having prophets, seers and revelators on the earth?”
I imagine that many of you feel like I do and could answer that I ponder and think about this often in these tricky times. We recently had General Conference where we had the blessing of hearing words from our Prophet, President Nelson.I was reassured by not just his words but by the way that he delivered them, his calm assurances, his invitations, his promises and the peace that I felt as I listened.
As I have re-read and studied his words there are some I want to share, which help me to focus and keep going on a daily basis. He said;
“Our Father knows that when we are surrounded by uncertainty and fear, what will help us the very most is to hear His Son. Because when we seek to hear—truly hear—His Son, we will be guided to know what to do in any circumstance.”
“I renew my plea for you to do whatever it takes to increase your spiritual capacity to receive personal revelation. Doing so will help you know how to move ahead with your life, what to do during times of crisis, and how to discern and avoid the temptations and the deceptionsof the adversary.”
As I thought about these invitations and the things he then listed, study, listening for promptings, temple and family history work amongst the list I thought of my favourite scriptures (I have a few) and why are they my favourites and what could I learn from them during this time?
In Helaman 5:12, Helaman tells his sons to “remember, remember” that they must build their foundation upon Christ, so that when hard times come because as we know they will and do come, but because of the solid foundation He gives they won’t be dragged down ‘to the gulf of misery and endless wo’
I know that as we build and regularly rebuild our foundation on Christ by hearing Him and trying to do as He asks, that we wont be dragged down and we can stand strong on that sure foundation.
And in Isaiah 40:31 we are told that “But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint’” I love this scripture and the hope it gives me. As I ‘wait upon the Lord’ I know that I’m strengthened in His time and as I learn patience and understanding of His timings. This doesn’t mean we should sitback and just wait! We need to be doing as President Nelson says; “As followers of Jesus Christ, living in a day when the COVID-19 pandemic has put the whole world in commotion, let us not just talk of Christ or preach of Christ or employ a symbol representing Christ. Let us put our faith in the Lord Jesus Christ into action!”
I, like many of you, miss going to church, I miss being with you all. I miss seeing my family, my children and grandson, the list of what I miss could go on and on and on but I know that these times will come to an end and one day we will look back and reflect on what happened. What we did during ‘lockdown’ may be some of the defining moments of our spiritual growth if we can follow our Prophets invitations to “Hear Him” in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen
