(Stake Presidency message week 12) This week by our Stake RS President
This week I spoke with a friend about our current situation and uncertainty around lots of things. She shared with me that she’s learning to think about and dwell on ‘certainties’ rather then uncertainties.
As we chatted and I reflected afterwards I realised there are currently lots of these uncertainties such as, will the children go back to school soon, and will they be safe? Will my family member be able to get married soon? Can we go on our holiday? Will my child be able to serve a mission as planned? When can I return to work? Can we pay the bills and what’s for dinner?
Some of the ‘certainties’ that are important in our lives are that our Heavenly Father loves us. That will never change. He knows us, loves and wants what is best for us, that will never change. We have a loving Saviour who gave everything for us-that will never change or be uncertain. I could write a very long list of spiritual/gospel related certainties as I’m sure you could if you think about it. But what can help us to change our view from uncertain to certain? What changes our perspective of things when times are hard. This could be a number of different things for you.
For me, knowing that I am a daughter of God is one of the most important, wondrous and life-changing truths in my life. I have known this certainty since childhood and is my go-to when times are hard. I know that a loving Heavenly Father would never have me be in a situation that isn’t for my benefit and so often I have to trust that He knows best. I have to learn to lean on my Saviour knowing that He is there for me, always! And sometimes I have to lay my burdens at His feet knowing that that’s what He wants me to do. To lay them there, not to hold onto them and to leave them there and not pick them back
In Matthew 11:28-30 it says;
“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
“Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
“For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light”
What a wonderful and true promise and a certainty!
I have had a wonderful week this week with lovely family news and events that have reminded me of the joys and certainties of life but underlying all of those is the certainty that God lives and loves us, we have a Saviour who’s atonement gives us hope, peace, comfort and encouragement during times of trial and that uncertainty although a part of life is always more than over compensated for by all the positives and certainties we are blessed with if we search and listen for them in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
